History

The vision began in the early 1930s when an elderly woman, Clara Frasher, recruited a group of her friends to pray for the teens attending Gainesville High School in Texas. Six years later, in 1939, a young man named Jim Rayburn started a club in Gainesville, Texas. Jim was concerned about the teenagers in the town who did not show interest in participating in the traditional programs of the church and began to explore various possibilities...

The Five C's of Young Life

Young Life began with some simple ideas on communicating the truth about God's love with young people. After more than seven decades, those simple ideas have become concrete methods for reaching middle school, high school and college students with friendship and hope.

Testimonies

I was going through a lot of family problems, I suffered abuse and left my home. I started a treatment in a hospital, while I was staying in a house related to the hospital and waiting to see who would take care of me. That's where I met a Young Life leader who took an interest in my life and invited me to the camp. At that camp I was able to meet Jesus, and I realized that the hand that lifted me up every time I fell to the floor crying, because I couldn´t handle what I was going through, was JESUS. Now I am training to be able to be part of the Young life team and so with my life testimony I can bless many teenagers.

I went to the camp without desire or hope that I could change my life and when we had the 15 minutes alone with God, I started to pray and while I was praying I felt like I was being dragged and shaken. At that moment I felt an incredible relief and I started to cry. Then I was baptized and today I attend a church.

I was introduced to Young Life by a friend from school when I was 12 years old. I can say that knowing YL changed my life because I was able to know Jesus, not Jesus as a religion, but yes as a friend. I had days when I was sad or down and after being in the clubs, activities and talks I felt much more encouraged, and I understood that not everything in life is discouragement, but that there is always opportunity in Jesus, that he loves us very much. Thanks to the fact that Jesus changed my life, today I am training to be able to help many teenagers as they helped me.

I went for the first time to a camp in 2019, at first I was not so sure about going, but when I arrived at the camp, the positive energy and excellent treatment from the leaders and other kids, made me feel comfortable and I loved it. At that time I was living a chaos in my life and I felt identified with a play, I realized that it was not a coincidence that I was in that place and in the 15 minutes alone with Jesus made me find the peace I was needing long time ago, I understood that what I had been looking for unconsciously, was the love of God in my life.

I came to know Young Life through a leader named Cristian. I went to the camp and had a very strong encounter with God, which changed my life completely. The team of leaders showed me a lot of love and a real interest. It was really what I needed. Eventually I started helping with the contact work until I became a volunteer leader. YL was very important for the growth in my life and in my relationship with God. I think that if YL didn't come to me, all this wouldn't have happened and I wouldn't know where I would be today, that's why I always say that YL is my everything.

When I was invited to the Young Life camp, I didn't want to go because I was down all the time and didn't want to relate to anyone, but when I got there, my perspective changed. I saw a whole team working nonstop with a lot of love so that we could have the best week of our lives. And so it was, it was five unforgettable days and I found God again after a long time. From that moment my life began to change. The camp was the impulse to keep going, to not give up and to determine to say YES to God.

For me, Young Life is joy, companionship, friendships and a lot of love to give to whoever approaches it, for anyone without discrimination, where you can belong to the group with a lot of comfort and confidence. In Young Life I discovered Jesus.

In Young Life I lived many nice things, new friends, adventures, but above all, very cool people who show a lot of interest in you.

What I found in YL is a family, where everyone cares about how you are or what you do with your life. I learned that in Jesus there is a way out of all the problems we can have.

Maitén Gimenez, 16 years old.

In YL, I found very good friends, and I also learned about God. When I arrived, I wasn't much of a conversation guy, but I was able to relate to them and now I have good friends.
